About

By Sloane Davidson, Founder and CEO, Hello Neighbor

I wrote my first blog post in 2005 for LAist and was hooked. I'm an explorer by nature and love digging around where I live and where I travel and couldn't wait to share what I found online.

Fast forward to 2008 and The Causemopolitan was born. Since then I’ve built my purpose around my passion - giving back and sharing how everyone can find the best version of themselves and truly come alive. I've spoken at dozens of conferences and schools about how to give back and written extensively for online and print outlets.

I'm an activist and an advocate at heart. I bring people together both for work and for passion-projects. Examples over they years have included organizing volunteer events, large-scale fundraisers, multi-city pop-up events, private influencer dinners and historic walking tours.

In 2013 I published The Giving Manifesto and in 2014 I added spokesperson to my resume representing a women's health brand. I participate as an influencer with brands and nonprofits of all shapes and sizes.

Who is Sloane Davidson? I was that girl with big glasses in the fourth grade who convinced her whole school to start a recycling program. In high school I organized a day dedicated to volunteering. In college I set up opportunities for friends to fundraiser for charity walks and go to soup kitchens. After college I took a big city job and didn’t notice until a year went by that I missed giving back and it was making me miserable.

It taught me a valuable lesson. Be true to who you are.

That’s where The Causemopolitan comes in. Since that wakeup call, I’ve focused my energy on the two things I love most, bringing people together and giving back to others. I’m not here to make anyone feel guilty for what they can’t do, instead I want you to feel empowered by what you can do.

While The Causemopolitan focuses a lot on giving back, it also is a lifestream for me. A chance to share my view on the world and share what I’m really excited about. Those topics tend to focus on lifestyle, travel, being the best you that you can be - and then women’s issues, microfinance, and finding cool new nonprofits to feature and awesome people to interview.

My motto is “She was never bored because she was never boring.”

For work, I run Hello Neighbor, a nonprofit organization that works to improve the lives of recently resettled refugee families by matching them with dedicated neighbors to guide and support them in their new lives. Previously, I ran a digital communications consulting practice at Farsight Media where I run some pretty cool influencer and social media campaigns for Fortune 100 companies, startups and nonprofits. Before that I worked in agencies, startups and nonprofits in New Orleans and Los Angeles. I'm originally from Pittsburgh and have also lived in Boston and Burlington, Vermont. I spent 2009 as a volunteer and digital nomad traveling to 9 countries around the world. I’m an adventurous spirit. I love travel and have been to 41 countries and 44 states - and counting!
